NMCC Director of Admissions & Outreach Sarah Stackhouse welcomes high school students from around Aroostook County to the College campus.

Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) held its annual Open House event on Friday, October 18th, attracting nearly 400 high school students and chaperones from Aroostook County and surrounding areas.

The NMCC campus bustled with activity as visitors participated in guided tours and attended information sessions designed to introduce the college’s programs and services.

“We are excited about the strong turnout at this year’s Open House,” said Jacqueline Martin, Assistant Director of Admissions at NMCC. “It’s wonderful to see the NMCC community come together to create a welcoming and informative experience for the high school students who attend. The open house is a valuable opportunity for students to explore their options and envision their future. It allows them to connect with our faculty, see the facilities firsthand, and gain insights that help them make informed decisions about their education and career paths.”

Among the attendees was Ian Russell from Caribou Tech Center, who shared his experience at the event. “I’m in the process of applying for Diesel Hydraulics at NMCC,” Russell said. “It was really cool to tour the shop and see the equipment I could be working on next year.”

During their visit, attendees explored NMCC’s facilities, including modern classrooms, simulation centers, and innovative labs. They engaged with faculty and staff to gain insights into financial aid, admissions, and student life. A complimentary meal was provided in NMCC’s Reed Dining Commons. The event also featured an appearance by the NMCC mascot, Frankie the Falcon, who added a festive touch to the day’s activities.

This year’s increased attendance reflects the 9% rise in fall enrollment at NMCC compared to 2023, which aligns with a 10% enrollment boost across the Maine Community College System. This growth is further supported by Maine’s Free College Scholarship, which has made higher education more accessible to recent high school graduates.
