PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Four Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) students have been named to the All-Maine Academic Team, joining a select group of 26 students from Maine’s community colleges recognized for outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

The NMCC honorees are Logan Bernier, of New Canada, nursing; Ethan Thibeault, of Mapleton, diesel hydraulics; Grace Flewelling, of Easton, nursing; and Robert Giles, of Bangor, automotive collision repair.

Bernier, a nursing student, found her passion for healthcare at age 16 when she became a certified nursing assistant. She has earned the NMCC Presidential Scholarship and the Future in Healthcare Award. After graduation, she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing while working at Cary Medical Center.

Thibeault, a second-year diesel hydraulics student, initially studied network administration and cybersecurity before an internship in GPS systems sparked his interest in diesel mechanics. He is the recipient of the Gorman Family L.L.Bean Scholarship and is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Flewelling, a nursing student, was inspired by personal experiences with compassionate healthcare. She has been awarded the Worthington Scholarship and plans to become a family nurse practitioner, with a particular interest in emergency and flight nursing.

Giles, a second-year student in the auto collision repair program, has always had a passion for cars and hopes to own an auto body shop. He has received the Thema Swain Annual Scholarship and is a third-degree black belt involved in karate tournaments and church volunteer work.

All four students are members of Phi Theta Kappa and have each been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees.

“This recognition highlights the dedication, perseverance, and leadership of these exceptional students,” said NMCC interim president Angela R. Buck. “Their commitment to academic excellence and community service reflects the values of NMCC and the broader community college mission.”

The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected by their college based on their academic performance and contributions to their communities. The scholarship, awarded by the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees, honors those who have demonstrated excellence in their fields.
